Obama Addresses 2009 Recovery Act, Hesston Shooting in Jacksonville Speech

President Barack Obama arrived in Jacksonville, Florida on February 26 to speak about the 2009 Recovery Act, a $787 billion dollar stimulus package passed during his first term, as well as the recent Hesston, Kansas, shooting.

“The Recovery [Act] has been a success,” Obama said, adding that without it, the country “could have fallen into another Great Depression.”

Regarding the Hesston shooting, Obama called the cycle of gun violence in the US a “routine” that needed to stop.

“We cannot become numb to this,” Obama said. “Right now this Congress may not have any appetite to do anything about this, but we need one that does.” Credit: YouTube/The White House
