Willow Wildfire Continues to Grow, but So Does Containment Level

The Willow Fire in California’s Sierra Nevada National Forest burned through 5,100 acres on August 1. While the wildfire grew by 1,000 acres overnight, so did its containment level, according to local media. The incident report states that the fire is 50 percent contained. Fire officials told local media they expect the fire to be at least 90 percent contained within the next week.

The blaze threatened 450 buildings, but none have been destroyed. Mandatory evacuations are also in place.

Local media reported the fire was started when a boy lit pine branches with a lighter, but the cause remains under investigation. Credit: Facebook/City of San Gabriel Fire Dept
