Rescue Operations Continue Through Night at Capsized Ferry

A ferry carrying around 470 passengers, mostly students from a high school in Ansan, capsized off South Korea’s southwest coast early on Wednesday, April 16. The ferry was off the island of Jindo in South Jeolla Province and taking passengers from Danwon High School in Ansan, Gyeonggi Province, on a school trip to Jeju island.

As of the early hours of April 16, six people were confirmed dead and 290 were missing according to local reports. Footage from the South Korean Coast Guard shows nighttime rescue operations taking place at the site of the capsize. This footage was taken late on April 16 into early April 17.
