Obama Visits New Orleans' Treme Neighborhood

US President Barack Obama toured the Treme neighborhood in New Orleans on August 27 to mark the 10th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. Federal, state and local authorities worked together to revitalize the area after the storm, he said. Authorities also wanted to make sure that some of the structural inequalities were fixed as part of the revitalization, he said.

Obama credited Mayor Mitch Landrieu for much of the work.

“Just because the houses are nice doesn’t mean our job is done,” he said. There’s still vast poverty and the community needs help, Obama said.
