Thailand has a long history of rice production and has the fifth-largest amount of land under rice cultivation in the world. Thailand is the world's largest exporter of rice. Much of Thailand's rice is still harvested the old fashion way, by hand with friends and families banding together to bring in the crop. Phrae is 530 kilometers (329 miles) north of Bangkok.
